National Take a Hike Day

National Take a Hike Day

One of our favorite pastimes is finding new hiking trails to take our dog out on, and most of our vacations are planned around hikes.  Today is National Take a Hike Day and while our day was spent working, not outside like we'd prefer, today is always a reminder to get out and explore more.

We're reminiscing on some of the places we've hiked the past year, and pinning our trail map app with some hikes we'd like to do in the future.

Acadia National Park - Beech Cliff trail and the Bee Hive trail are two we hiked in Acadia, though the entire park is beautiful!  Definitely do not pass up Cadillac Mountain and water overlooks if you go.

Valley Forge National Historical Park is local to us and a fun spot with several  trails that are great for allowing our dog to explore.

Hawaii - One of the main things we wanted to do while on our Hawaii honeymoon was find some good hiking trails.  Physically, we weren't feeling up to most of the longer ones on our wishlist, but we were able to get some shorter hikes in.  We visited both National Parks in Hawaii (bc we're trying to hit all 63!).  We did a portion of the Haleakalā Crater Trail on Maui, which truly feels like Mars.. especially if you catch it when the fog is rolling in like we did!  In Volcanoes, we walked down and across the crater on Kilauea Iki Trail.

We also couldn't pass up taking a stroll to see parts of the Nā Pali Coast on Kauai.  The Pihea Trail just past Pu’u O Kila Lookout has beautiful views of the coast!
